This is something that I had originally planned for my own writings but it just did'nt fit, so I will offer it here.
Clearly, if River was in a rom with all those high level folk, there must be more that she knows. That would make the bounty on them still standing.
I can imagine one particular hunter, one with a crew, that has a particular method of tracking down Serenity.
He is destroying every Firefly he encounters.
The idea is that sooner or later with fewer in existence, it will make tracking Mal easier.
In fact, one episode could start with a Firefly getting blown out of the air. Hell of a teaser.
As for friends in other places, sooner or later you could factor in those who helped Simon and River escape in the first place.
